City of Ifa - Owl Eyes (Demo)

And it seems City of Ifa doesn't like resting from making new music, so here's a new single by City of Ifa from their upcoming new album. According to facebook statuses and stuff, they're planning to release an split with Henrietta (band in which is involved now their former drummer -they seem to share their band's members very often with other bands or something like that) Well, the main subject here is that new City of Ifa is coming up, so let's have a sneak peak at their brand new sound

Tommy the Warden - An Architect's Revelation pt. 1

asdjfhadbfmjffa I'll post this one really quick 'cause my stomach hurts so bad. Just take a listen to it, and free dl from their bandcamp :)

Light Black - Joy and Sunshine Just Beneath your Feet

Here's Light Black (side project by Paul Hundeby -guitar/vox from City of Ifa). I would say this project is more chilled out and experimental, anyway you can notice the mathy tappings and his signature screams.

Walter Kappler: Guitar/Bass
Paul Hundeby: Vocals/Drums/Bass

You can download their album for free:

Good Citizens - Soma Holiday

I would say this is the totally math/instrumental version of Oh No! It's Birds! Without a bassist, and including the artwork's style- pretty damn kickass. These two guys released this EP on October, so it's still fresh out of the oven. This band is totally natural, no pedal effects or whatsoever.

My favourite track of the whole EP:

The Dead Revolt

xThisisdisaster (Yougotablog) did it again!

Progressive rock three-piece-band from Houston, Texas. This band combines all sorts of rythms, goin from acoustic and slow intros up to fast and heavy drumming. Lots of tapping, intense riffing and an awesome drummer going on over there. If you are more into progressive stuff you'll definitely dig this band.

Download their discography for free or support them:

(No, they don't have facebook)

My favourite drum track of theirs:

She Looks Like a Horse

She Looks Like a Horse is an awesome math 3 piece band that might sound as a perfect mix of TFOT and Tera Melos, including some happy songs using TFOT-ish pull ons and pull offs, clean vocals, instrumentals, lots of pedal effects, and also some insane tappings and crazy breakdowns. Listen to them and you'll see what a I mean. Highly recommended.

Thanks to xThisisdisaster for this one (Yougotablog)

City of Ifa - EP

Did you know City of Ifa also went through a mathy/experimental phase?
This EP begins with the typical math guitar tapping song (rough version of British Museum), in order to continue with repetitive, quick breakdowns and solos. There also you can notice the exploration process of these guys seeking a sort of own signature sound, since there's from acoustic parts to progressive bridges. Listen to the whole album and you'll see what I mean.

The Para-medics - Switch It On Em!!!

Math/Prog/Instrumental band from Lansing, IL.
This album has a sort of soft-agressive mathcore begining, mathing their way out and finally reaching a progressive section. Then it continues with their song Tropical Caterpillar (the song's name gives you an accurate idea about the sound of it). And finally Mosquito Pope as the serious-prog. section of the album.

Line-up:
-Dylan Piskula/Guitar
-Brian Baliga/Bass
-Nnamdi Ogbonnaya/Drums

Download for free from their Bandcamp

*Their drummer, Nnamdi, has done a lot of music appearances as guitarist and drummer in different projects:

-Richard Def and the Mos Pryors (Math/Rock/Alternative)
-Itto (Math)
-Nnamdi Sooper-dooper Secret Side Project (Alternative/Rock/Hip-Hop)

The Math Corner - New Section

Alright guys, I was thinking of a new section for the blog. Since I've seen a lot of suggestions about really cool math bands, and it would be such a shame losing those suggestions during the course of the time -and also to give them the chance of seeing the light of day-, the blog will now have a new section named The Math Corner. The bands belonging to this section will be tagged under "The Math Corner", and the corresponding band name, so you can find them quickly in the "Bands" section (below at the right side of the blog).

Hope you like this new idea! Cheers!

Giant Battle Monster - Gaint Battle Monster Vs Man With a Gun for a Head EP

Progressive/Math/Experimental band from Houston, Texas. They have shared stage with Sunrise and Ammunition. I have listened to this countless times lately. What I mostly like about this band is the sound of their drums, reflecting a sort of agressive and energetic feeling.
(Thanks to Me and My Music Call it Insanity, for this recommendation)

Free download from their Bandcamp

Anisette - Fruit Salad

Didn't find info about this one. They define themselves as organic/pop/rock and roll. I would include math within their description.

Free download from their Bandcamp

Future 1983 - Future 1983

Mathy/Experimental/Prog. difunct band from Florida. Their guitarist, Danny, has a strong Jazz influence. Most of people compare them to bands such as Tera Melos or Them Roaring Twenties. They broke up and Danny has a new proyect named Friends.

Free download from their Bandcamp

Tera Melos - Aped [Guitar Tabs]

As me, most of you were amazed by Tera Melos' acoustic version of Aped that Nick plays on their tour documentary teaser. After several attempts I finally did tab out the first half of that song. I did it using a software named TabIt (Google it and you'll find it for free from their official page). Although, there's still much to figure out.

So here are the tabs! and my cover.

Tiny Moving Parts - The Dan Martin Split w/Victor Shores

An amazing band which I had posted their first EP before. If you didn't get the chance to know about them before, I suggest you to go immediately check 'em out.
Also they re-record De La Exorta, one of the coolest songs from their first EP titled Waves Rise, Waves Recede, The Ocean Is Full Of Waves.

Groundskeeper - Trails EP

Math/Progressive/Post-punk 3-piece band from Oakland, Ca. A crazy guitar driven band that will blow your mind as you take a listen to the first tweleve seconds of their song The Wilderness. Highly recommended to math lovers.

I'm Sorry Callfield - Discography

I'm Sorry Callfield is a Math-ish/Progressive band which I haven't found too much info yet. I know that the guitarist is currently in a Math/Alternative band called Zefs Chasing Cara. He also had/have (not sure about it) another proyect called Gerga Forda.

MySpace (I'm Sorry Callfield)

Discography (I'm Sorry Callfield)

Love American - Love American

Post-hardcore/Screamo band from Palmdale, CA. Quite similar to Hot Cross and For Want Of. Among their influences you'll find The Fall of Troy, Hot Cross, Sparta, Thursday.

Back Seat Driver - Demo

Progressive/Experimental/Post-hardcore band from Puerto Rico with female vocals. They have very dinamic and harmonic riffs, with intense instrumental sections. Among their influences you'll find The Fall of Troy, Animals As Leaders, August Burns Red, Rise Against.

Bandcamp (Download directly from them)

For Want Of - Self Titled

Hardcore/Punk/Screamo band from Austin. If you like Hot Cross you'll like this band also. They play energic fast songs that will make you feel like throwing yourself down a staircase. Cool band.

The River Unrest - New Album Update

Hey everybody!
Yeah, it's been a while, I'm not spending too much time at home lately so therefore no time to investigate for new music nor uploading stuff.

Well, I'm proudly announcing to you that our good friends The River Unrest are finnally in their recording process for their new album, which is goin to be sick -faster tempos and more tappings than in their first album. They apparently have included two new members (rythm guitarist and new drummer). They've been having writing and jamming sesions since a month ago or so. And now they're planning to release this new album hopefully within the next two weeks. So keep an eye on their Facebook and Bandcamp.

The Fall of Troy - Live @ Hurley Studios

Their live set at Hurley Studios. (Audio)

Tracklist:

- Chapter III: Nostalgic Manerisms
- I just Got This Symphony Goin'
- Nobody's Perfect

I Just Got This Blog Goin':

The Helix Nebula

Welcome to these Australian guys who are currently on a studio project titled The Helix Nebula. They have a very technical style that might remind you a bit to CHON, with their very complex structures in timing and solos. Stop wasting your time reading this and go check'em out.

Thank to xThisisdisaster for the recommendation

A Kiss Farewell - Tiananmen Square Dance

Before The Hills Have Eyes was formed, Brent Landon (former bassists of them) was in a band called A Kiss Farewell, which recorded a Demo and a full lenght album titled Tiananmen Square Dance.

Lady Radiator - Bounce Energy Hear Me Out

LR was a posthardcore-ish 4-piece band based out of Union City, NJ. Some people compare them to ATD-I. Unfortunately they are in what they called an undefined hiatus.

Prog Rock/Post-Hardcore/Math Rock band based in Moscow. I didn't find info about this band. Just to give you an idea, they might sound a bit like Pacific Proving Ground. Thanks to Timur from Seconds Before Disaster for this one.

A Kiss Farewell - Demo

Another difunct band from Seattle. Do you remember Brent Landon (The Hills Have Eyes former bassist) and the demos he recorded in a proyect titled Splendid Teeth? AKF is one of the bands he played, and in their 2005 demo they re-recorded 3 songs from ST. Take a listen to the song 2.2 (under the name of Psychic Sleeves by Splendid Teeth).

Members:

Mike Clark - Vox
Shane Deegan - Vox
Brent Landon - Guitar
Jeff King - Bass
Kendahl Kapetan - Drums (Red Museum, in Harley Quinn EP)

The Galileo Affair - Demo

A three piece band from Wareham, MA. Found about them thanks to their "What Sound Does a Mastodon Make?!" cover. Currently they are working on new songs. They released a demo, but they say their current songs (which are not released yet) reflects more the influence by TFoT.
In the meanwhile enjoy their demo.

Red Museum - New Album

Now Red Museum's new album is available for hearing on their MySpace and on their Facebook Bandpage. It's titled Post Empire, and you can download for free on their Facebook bandpage (Ilike app) their song titled Love Never Dies.

This album has followed a totally different direction, it's not like their older TFoT-ish songs. Altough there are other songs Ilia published on their Youtube channel that doesn't appear on this album. So I think they are going into a experimentation phase, and afterwards release their power.
The album's credits and tracklist written by Ilia

Ghidorah - Self Titled

When TFoT recorded Ghostship demos independently, it was recorded by Gordon edward Greenwood III and Dustin Kochel of the bands Bird Shaped Holes in the Sky, Physical Demon and Ghidorah. The last one, Ghidorah, is a pretty interesting noisecore band form seattle. I say interesting because they remind me a lot the difunct band The Hills Have Eyes -and just found they are related at some point.

Trinitron Meets the Mars People - Mars People Meets Trinitron

If you love math-ish stuff like Tera Melos, Don Caballero, etc, etc, you're gonna love this band. A trio influeced mainly by Japanesse pop, and jappanesse stuff. They describe themselves as Dance/Math rock band from Walnut, California. The band features a combination of musicians that have played and have interacted in the San Gabriel’s ever changing Prog/math/hardcore/Indie scenes. Their sound is a combination of Minus the Bear-esque guitar-taps and Keys, with minimal sophisticated time signatures and a majority of Dance beats.

Red Museum - Greenlake Demo

As me most of you are waiting for RM's new EPs, so in the meanwhile I'll give you the Greenlake Demo in high quality, including the song Rome de Leon, which is a masterpiece and it's really hard to find. The drums for this EP were perfomed by Just Like Vinyl's drummer: Jay Beaman (Selftitled and Greenlake Demo). But in the Moonrocks From Mars music video appears another drummer: Ken Kapetan (Harley Quinn EP). Their current drummer is Mike Munro.

Trivia: The band's name comes from a song called Red Museum by Idiot Pilot (which are close friends with Red Museum). Also Dimiter has perfomed with them in some shows.

Video:

City Of Ifa - Beach Demon Lyrics

Clean the fire out
There wasn't time to describe
Massacres that occurred befire we knew this shit was life

It's only tragic if you know we know we know
It's only natural for wives to walk away
Today's got a dirty hard on

Theres something worng with you
Found it myself,
So I love you too.

Dirty interest lies
Behind the rat king
Were all of us dead?
Or is this a dream?
It's never taken but a bit of time to feel
That wound's weeping like a whore in ten-inch heels

Here at the end of it all
I feel I am below it
The whole worlds fucking over it
Love will bring you somewhere,
Not saying I'll be there.

Broken, coiciding with the only way out
We're still outrumbered by our own species

I'm just bones in a box.

City Of Ifa - New Song!

This is one of my favorite bands at the moment -thanks to xthisisdisaster-.
Last Monday COI published via Facebook a song off their upcoming new album titled Blue Shoes. This song -titled Beach Demon- reflects how this band has grown up. This song in comparation with the others in Overture or Black Pyramid, which I'd dare to say are TFoT and #12 rip offs, has a totally newer sound, more riffs and a more controlled crazyness.

Tera Melos - Zoo Weather

Tera Melos's "new" album. The songs in here are the bonus tracks from Patagonian Rats + three remixes of Manar The Magic.
...Now can't get that song out of my head.

The Number Twelve Looks Like You - Mongrel

The good old days...
I miss this band.

If you have never listened these guys before, then you must do it and quick!

Just Raptors - Birthed From The Chalk

This is a difunct band from Bothel, Washington, and played from Dec. 2005 to Dec. 2006. Among their influences there are bands such as At the Drive-in, TFoT, Botch, Circle Takes the Square, Fugazi, Thursday, Holy Molar (So you could make your own idea about how they sound like).
This was really hard for me to find and this is the first place where you'll find them.

Protest The Hero - Scurrilous

Thanks to the person who posted the link on the shoutbox. I haven't listened the whole album yet, so I can't give an opinion about it.

...Now I've read some rumors that they leaked the album themselves.

Tiny Moving Parts - Waves Rise, Waves Recede, The Ocean Is Full Of Waves

Tiny Moving Parts describe themselves as indie/punk/screamo. In MY words, and as I was suggested, they sound as a combination of an agressive Tera Melos plus TFoT and plus a bit of their own invention. Also they did a tribute to TFoT on their Youtube channel.

Gracias a FrancoFuentes for the suggestion

Solaseria - Grantle Fina EP

This is City of Ifa's bassit's side proyect. It's not as crazy as COI, instead it's acoustic and relax. You can stream it on his bandcamp page, and get it for free only for this week.

Tim Ward - What is he up to?

I think most of you might be wondering about Tim. He recorded some acoustic songs that you can get for free on his Reverbnation page, and also he posted not long ago a song of a band called Cheaters, in which he provided vocals. Apparently the band recorded only two songs, and one of them was lost.

The Crinn - Dreaming Saturn

A band sometimes labeled as Mathcore, Techmetal, Techgrind. These guys are self taught and their results are phenomenal. Within some of the songs it feels like you're listening to several songs linked together because they don't have the same riffs, there's a constant change on their melodies.

Mario Camarena from CHON

The Thirty Years War - Live @ The Paradox

Another goodie. All the songs performed here were re-recorded by Andrew, Tim and Erak as TFoT, except for "A Tribute to Orville Wilcox". Nice quality.
And yes... it's Erak with short hair.

Needless to Say - Bourgeoisie

An experimental/indie difunct band from Fontana, CA. This guys split up in 2008. If you like Glassgow Drive you must listen to this band.
They had posted their discography on their myspace, but someday all the links went down. It would be awesome if someone could pass me their other albums.

Protest The Hero - C'est La Vie (Lyrics)

LYRICS:
Stepped off a chair so he could learn to let loose, learn to let loose before the pendulum wore off |his final sound a gurgle and a cough | and his final words "the pendulum wore off" | stepped off a building to find concrete evidence, concrete evidence that he'd ever make an impact |fiction splattered into fact | and his fiction splattered into another sidewalk painting on display | stepped off a bridge so he could make a splash, to make a splash he had to flounder like a fish out of water | another lamb that chose the slaughter | stepped off a chair so he could learn to let loose, learn to let loose before the pendulum wore off | his final sound a gurgle and a cough | stepped off a platform and briefly made the news, made the news and made the trains run fifteen minutes late | oh what a price to pay to be the author of your fate | the trains were fifteen minutes late (to be the author of your fate) | c'est la vie! a drooling old bitch and a house full of lies | c'est la vie!the little things that kill you make you glad to be alive | c'est la vie!disease in your genes and ocean levels on the rise | c'est la vie! sing a song of living before everybody dies

The Thirty Years War - Demo

Yes, it is. Some of the songs have different parts and it includes a track which wasn't included on Martyrs Among the Casualties.

Tears of Greeneyed Angels

Thanks to InerRecords for this one
