I Just Got This Blog Goin' - 2010's Top 5 Albums
Alright, I have checked my mediafire account and have listed the Top 5 downloaded albums of the year. These are the albums that TFoT lovers most like at the moment:
(200 downloads) Wow! that's more than the wellknown...
(104 downloads)... then follows:
(88 downloads)
Unfortunately these guys are no longer making music, just did a couple demos after this album that will never see the light of day.
(75 downloads)... and finally
(51 downloads) hope these guys don't break up.
Well, these are 2010's top 5 downloaded albums, hope we can gather some more good TFoT-ish bands in the upcoming year. Don't forget to leave your suggestions in the shoutbox, or also you can hit me up at my lasfm profile.
Cheers!!

Panama Rise - Facebook Rip + Quick News
Today was Panama Rise's EP release show.
They played with Mike TV and Rumour Has It @the sugarmill, and
also played a cover of F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X. which apparently was sick and were well recieved.
They're actually planning to re-record some of their old songs
and maybe go to the US if possible.
In the meanwhile here's a Facebook rip for their EP.

Lost Apparitions - Circumambulation
Progressive band from Iowa.
At first they seem pretty much influenced by The Mars Volta, but have also quick changes to a tfot-core crazy guitar-driven rythm. Although, in this album they have a more hardcore sound compared to that in their second one, I'd say this is when TMV meets TFoT
with a new vocalist (probably from Glasgow Drive).

Veil of Maya - [id]
If you're one of those who don't like metalcore, this band will probably change your mind. Well... at least you're going to like this band, they incorpore the classic elements like double pedal, hardcore screaming and all that stuff but you can understand what they are playing.
At the begining it took me a while to dig them; in the case don't like them, you gotta take some time listening to their songs to dig their riffs and solos -at least once.

Ideas Sobre La Unión - El Gran Escape
This is the first Chilean band I found interesting, although they are not that TFoT-ish, you can notice they are influenced by ATD-I; quite progressive. You might wonder why I say this, well, the reason for that is because mostl of Chilean bands have a generic sound like punk or hardcore, pop/rock, etc. In some parts of their songs you can listen to a bit of Erak meeting Rodriguez Lopez. Anyway, I think they must be listened for being the coolest Chilean band I've ever listened to.
Pink Gamera - Y Su Madre Volvió Rollo Cyborg
This album gives me a feeling of "The Fall of Troy meets At The Drive-in", but also including a more creative personality. You can find among their influences bands such as ATD-I, The Fall of Troy, A Perfect Circle, Circle takes The Square. They are actually dissolved into different projects: Chiptune Commando, Tornillo, The Cactus Curse, and Solia.

The Fall of Troy - XFM sessions
This session at XFM radio was recorded early 2006 I guess, and it was before the release of "Manipulator". It was posted in TFoT's myspace. And they include 'F.C.P.R.E.M.I.X.', 'You got a death wish JT', and 'Seattlantis'.
Andrew says why TFOT broke up...
For those of you who haven't read this...
This is why I thought it was best if we broke up.
We had being doing this for 8 years, 5 albums, lotsa tours and time spent. The response was more than I had ever imagined, and thats was awesome. During those 8 years though, I didn't do a lot of things (college, steady girlfriend, etc) and while I got to live my dreams, I didn't do a lot of normal things. Also during those 8 years I started drinking, smoking, and doing other drugs at a steadily increasing pace. These things are all fine to live with, until they become a problem in your own mind.
Sometime around the release of in the unlikely event I really started getting bummed out on how I was living my life. At the same time our album came out to not too many people being stoked on it, and not selling as well as we had hoped. The album not doing super well was a bummer after putting time and money into it. I liked it when we recorded it and while I knew it wasn't very much like what we had previously done I was excited about it. So being sad about that made it easier to drink and do drugs to push it out of my mind.
So we go on tour to try to stir up more interest and sell some shit, and on tour I have a hell of a time trying to not drink, etc, which is something I actually wanted to do. When there is a ton of booze sitting around for some reason I feel the need to drink (alcoholic you think?). So as our album is failing, I'm getting more and more bummed on everything because nothing I try to do seems to work out right.
We had already talked about calling it, and the fact that I was pretty fucked up, along with money problems, the album not selling well, and our contact with EVR being over, it just seemed like the right time to call it. I don't think I could have done it any longer the way I was doing it. I needed to stop almost everything in my life and focus on getting to a place where I liked myself and my decisions.
Here's the funny part. On the cross-country drive home from the last show of tour we were pulled over for a headlight being out at 10 in the morning. I guess I shouldn't have been driving with headlights on? We had a bag of pot, but I didn't think it would be an issue as I wasn't acting suspicious or driving crazy. Immediately after the first cop pulls up, a k9 unit pulls in behind him. Long story short, due to other people's legal issues, I took the blame. I had to return to pennsylvania 2 months after for my trial, and now have a large fine, rehab payments, community service, a license suspension, and probation.
On top of these legal issues I have been looking for a job, and trying to be a person I can live with.
So thats where I'm at, and why I haven't been in the mood to really talk to anyone. I don't have much to say other than, "Life is kinda shitty right now." The thing I loved and have done for 8 years is over, I don't know where to go from here, and the government has my balls in a vice for the next year-ish.
But I know it will be over eventually, so I try to fill my time with whatever shit I can.
If anyone cares and wants to organize it all, I will keep answering questions about this or whatever. Hope all of you are good, Thomas, Tim and I are still trying to figure out one last big blowout, and as shitty as this all sounds, its okay. Just one of those weird times in life I guess.
Oh also, it wasn't a drunk post earlier just a guilty and self-esteemless one.
Laterrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr."

Seconds Before Disaster - Demo 2010
This is a brand new band from St. Petersburg, Russia. Their style is defined by bands as The Mars Volta, The Fall of Troy, Red Museum, Lady Radiator and For The Mathematics.
Timur Mamatov:
"The story itself: we gathered together in november of 2008 in St. Petersburg. At first we were mostly fooling around, playing covers and some songs of our bassist's previous band. Then, in 2009 we started to work on our own stuff and played first concert on the 19th of April. Since then and till november 2009 we've had 6 concerts. Then for some reasons our drummer left us and we disbanded for a while. We tried to find a new one but those attempts were unsuccessful and those 2 dudes we tried to play with didn't really got used to our style. However we decided to write a demo using a drum machine. The demo recording was finished on the 7th of november 2010 and we began to promote it. A couple of days ago our first drummer said he wanted to reunite with us, so, this friday we'll had our joint rehersal since last year. We're looking forward for the new songs, new gigs and new recordings.
Talking about my personal preferences, as a viloin player I love bands I Would Set Myself On Fire For You and Loom, I find it interesting to add classical instruments to modern progressive music. In our upcoming materail I am going to increase the amount of post-rockish instrumental parts and violin solos."
Red Museum - Quick-short News
Here's another video by Ilia, playing another song off their two new upcoming EP's, titled ' Just The Facts'.
The EP's titles are going to be 'Ea' and 'Everyone Is For Sale And Nothing Is What It Seems', which are going to be released at early 2011.
You can also check out a new song in their myspace named 'Love', which is an armonic instrumental.

The River Unrest - A Little Review
Here we have some videos of this band that really impressed my ears since the first time I listened to them. Here you can see how technical is their guitarrist "Dankie" James.
About their song "Hurry Up! I've Seen Continents Move Faster than You!"
He told me it took about a year to finish it by goin through many phases until finally they decided the song was complete. Sandia cabeza took a few days (which is pretty interesting and impressive as you can see how hard it is).
Dankie: "I'm always borrowing gear from other people. In this video I used my friend's Line 6 Pod, it was on a Marshall setting with a tube screamer. I obviously used a Ibanez 7 string in the video but most of the time I use a Washburn 7 string with Dimarzio D activators pick ups."
Splendid Teeth
Maybe you don't know who Brent Landon is. Well, he's the former bassist of the difunct band The Hills Have Eyes. The thing is that after The Hills Have Eyes stopped their music career this dude re-record all their songs with another band (that's all I know) and now he's actually involved in other projetcs. Unfortunately now he's done with Splendid Teeth.
Here you can check his projects and other stuff:

Less Squirrel More Europe
Finally, after days of hard work in college-related stuff (but still have some to do) I have a little time to grab a beer can (missed beer) and post something. All right, now here we have these dudes from Kensington/Bethesda, Maryland, USA. Didn't find too much info. They have a quite relaxed sound and sort of progressive, similar to Pacific Proving Ground, but more progressive. Here's their myspace and their music:

Some bad news. Due to studies, and responsibilities, and shit I will have to leave this blog for a while - until sometime in november I guess- but I'll be back. So for now I'm putting here some stuff I was saving for another moment.

HYPNOTIZE!
Manic depressive
Constantly guessing
Count backwards from ten
You wont get into my head
Like a forcefield, how do you feel?
I can see your skin crawl
Like a forcefield, how you feel?
When you torture me
[Chorus]
Why do I insist on this?
I think I need to get a break
Get Up! Get up! GET UP!
Slip up! Slip up! SLIP UP!
Tie me to bed with your malicious intent
Every time that you slept alone
Pretend your knees
Are as weak as your dreams
Come crawling back, come crawling back please
Come crawling back, come crawling back please

Some hard-to-find lyrics
(If you wanna contribute, hit me up at my lastfm profile, cheers)
Red Museum - Un Mundo Al Reves
You generate the final symptom
Of whatever made-up mind plague you falsley bear
Sterile hearts run their even ground
Emotions breed scare
The coldest breeze that will ever touch
When manicured smiles and yourself coalesce
This your attempt to shed light
in your own darkness
Manifest misery.
Drowning so patientiently.
A perscription to surrender unveils
A side note to forever remember this curse.
A reminder of uniformed guilt
A world in reverse.
Manifest misery.
Drowning so patientiently.
Please leave me alone.
Its so hard to catch you when
You keep running backwards
A world in reverse.
____
Red Museum - Fall
(I transcribed this one, so if there's any mistake just tell me)
Dangerously since I tear(?) I keep this door shut
flooding through the cracks
why does everybody seem so numb around me?
or am I crazy?
every now and then I fall and the doors open
now I reign(?) on you
never have I felt(?) so free when I hit the ground
Look at me now
My eyes and words wound you again and you ask me why
though that's the worst part
herding me purposely seems so much better than not knowing when you do
But then again I could be taking it the wrong way like you say,
maybe you're just lost in silence, there's no right or wrong way
I simply know how to feel
every now and then I fall and the doors open
now I reign(?) on you
never have I felt(?) so free when I hit the ground
Look at me now

Oh No It's Birds (Tall tales)
Electric Church
These rhythms spent time writing themselves while I worked on ways to fold you
over. Caught in the sky I'll fall anywhere short of this lifeline I created.
Abbreviated names laced with purple controversy, I provoke your salvation we'll
shake hands then subside. These rhythms spent time writing themselves while I
worked on ways to fold you. Waking up in the company of ourselves.
These rhythms spent time writing themselves while I worked on ways to fold you
over.

Man Named Hands
Patience under these lights means keeping that same pace, resisting the joy that
once was coherence. I don't need medicine (because) I've got this handful of
ways to keep this shit to myself. Awful place and time to self-destruct so many
times, and now even all this cannot buy your acceptance. I don't need medicine
(because) I've got this handful of ways to keep this shit to myself.
("Because" is in quotations because it appears in the lyric booklet, but I don't
hear it in the song)

Time...and The Opposition
Time is our only opposition; disrobe the others I'll be waiting. Dissecting the
sentence of which the masses spoke; they had it all wrong. I am the statue and I
talk straight to silhouettes. Concentrated on intervals that have caused this
emergency, as impaired as the scarecrow we met in the streets who was always
wasting time. You constantly achieve all this shelter; dressed up and proving,
I'm still waiting. The solutions for those left aimlessly behind go on for
miles. Notice that these one handed vultures can see straight through your
composure.

Snake Immigrant
(Instrumental, but I felt wrong leaving it out)

300 Takes The Herd
Devise a plan, rewind from when the melodies shape square left to revise and to
repair. Is this the end? It's the last time I fall through the arms of a saint.
Is this the end? Constructing the ways to accommodate shape...
Devise a plan, rewind from when the melodies shape square left to revise and to
repair. Is this the end? I'm so tired of these towering eyes. Is this the end?
I'm the one that "quote" knows nothing at all.
I will be dammed if I'm the last one to know.

Tall Tales the Conscience Tells
Don't; don't ever stop throwing quarters at the wind. Tall tales the conscience
tells giving into negligence. We are the futures crowded culture of innocence.
Don't; don't ever stop throwing quarters at the wind. You went from knowing
exactly who you are to just hoping you'd find yourself. We are the futures
crowded culture of innocence.

Saviors
Slit the throat of the doctor who can't fix this, whatever happened to pills
that make my veins feel like flowers it's often just hours until they burst
through the floor unveiling the colors of black and grey with a flavored sense
of haste and the words that read, "I can't be the savior today."
Hesitant to resist this circus full of crippled children laughing in the
distance.
This faulted man he trades apples for liquor, counting his hours the clock just
ticks away. Somebody save us from being the saviors, counting his hours the
clock just ticks away. No longer distant this only means one thing, counting the
hours the clock just ticks away.
Though his lines were all wrong, I'm starting to agree that nothing ever
changes. Things won't ever change, and we all stay the same.
Slit the throat of the doctor who can't fix this, whatever happened to pills
that make my veins feel like flowers it's often just hours until they burst
through the floor unveiling the colors of black and grey with a flavored sense
of haste and the words that read, "I can't be the savior today."
(Thanks to this guy for these lyrics)

Sunrise and Ammunition (EP)
Forcing Slavery Down the Throat of a Free Soiler
They're hiding in the dark, they're hiding in the darkest shadows. Those who wish they always had those answers from the start wonder what's worthless and wonder what's art. Some will push for this new age, some refuse to turn the page. Dull and undefined, without the future or past in mind.
Anatomy of a Ghost
Earth and sky move to divide the goals and dreams of man. Divided against himself, he can not stand.
Ex Officio
I can live just like you but I just choose not to.
